Alexander Adam Bonilla Bantug was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. He was born on April 14, 1997 and had a passion for airplanes after his first plane ride. At the age of 5, he was independently traveling on the Southwest Airlines between Burbank and San Jose. Alex would travel with his grandparents and parents frequently throughout Europe and US all before the age of 10. His enthusiasm for aviation drove Alex to enroll in Civil Air Patrol where he learned compassion and structure.
Education was important to him, initially enrolling in Arizona State University and then transferring to San Jose State University where he graduated with a BS in Aviation. During school, he made lasting friendships while prioritizing his studies and simultaneously getting his private pilots, instrumentation and commercial license. He might not have been the best driver, but those that had the honor of flying with him said he was an amazing pilot. Alex was always trying to challenge and advance himself so he started his Masters of Science in Systems Engineering - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Alex enjoyed participating in various sports like volleyball and snowboarding. He prioritized his health, was a fitness fanatic and coined the name Mr. Muscles within the family. He was an under cover foodie, enjoying dining on sushi and the most expensive steak on the menu. Mr. Clean and Alex are synonymous, as he never missed a shower before bed regardless of the time.
Alex’s first job in the industry was at Joby Aviation. His most current role was working in the Battery group at Archer Aviation. He was able to contribute to pioneering electric aircraft all in alignment with his goals. Throughout this past week, coworker stories have surfaced and his amazing dedication to his job has been highlighted.
Alex always cherished his time with his relatives and especially looked forward to the family parties. His kind heart, inclusiveness and drive will never be forgotten.
